Building Custom Homes in South Florida

palm treesYour home is something that you enjoy living in, sharing with your family and friends and an extension of you. Like many things in life, you want to customize it and make it unique and your own special place. However there are some hidden costs that are associated with this.

When you begin to look for a home, one thing you should think about is weather you want to buy a new home and customize it from the ground up, or an existing home and begin making changes on your own.  Remodeling an existing home sounds like it would be fun and a cheaper option to go, however sometimes existing construction can uncover hidden damage or poor construction not suitable for your upgrades or changes you would like to complete.

Some other things to consider on building vs. remodeling:

  • Is there a possibility of "overbuilding"?
  • Are these upgrades suitable for your neighborhood that you are living in?
  • Would you get your ROI on the remodel that you choose to undertake?

The answer to these questions have many factors that need to be answered carefully before you decide to go down that path.

On average, to remodel an existing home is twice as expensive as it is to build it the first time. The reason for this is you end up paying for it twice. First, you have to have the initial payment to purchase the house and once you ready to remodel, you end up paying for those upgrades as well.

As land becomes more scarce in cities it becomes more feasible to remodel an existing house and make your changes, but if the area you are planning to live in does have lots available, it may be in your best interest to build a custom home.
